Ratz Instagib

Lino Slahuschek - 5 euros

Ratz is a railgun, a rocket propeller and, well, rats! This is a nice concept executed with a very particular style that suits its gameplay perfectly.

Great jazzy music can be heard during every deathmatch which cuts through the simplicity of the gameplay and fits with the low detail high contrast colours aesthetic. Environments are minimalist real world spaces built with simple geometry and scaled up to give the impression the player is rat sized.

Shooting the propeller bellow the player’s feet results in blasting towards the opposite direction, a technique reminiscent of rocket jumping in Team Fortress 2, that suits the gameplay and levels of Ratz very well. Getting a kill is difficult but satisfying and for the low detail the game features a surprising amount of gore.

Even though the community is not so active and there isn't much in content or progression, the fun level design and smooth movement make for a game that is fun with friends and, if shooters are your jam, quite worth the price.
